Positive Impacts of Lock down

              Blog-Positive Impacts of Lock down

         1. It is heartening to note the positive impacts of lock down in India and across the world in recent past 2-3 weeks in Mar &Apr 2020 since imposition of lock down in our country on 25 Mar 2020.One will be surprised to know the positive impacts of lock down when everywhere corona virus is taking toll of humans of all ages. There are mainly two broad fronts where we are seeing the positive impact due to lock down.

1.    On environment    2. On Individuals –

On Environment

                      i.        Air Pollution –

The greatest positive impact of lock down in our cities and also across the world saw air pollution levels plummet. Now we breath clean and fresh air. Reduction in PM 2.5 and NO2 registered in most of the countries.

e.g 21 Indian cities come out of top 30 worst polluted cities of the world. But the air pollution dropped in all our metro/major cities even in the 2nd week of 21 days lock down.

Delhi’s air pollution levels fell in category of good about a week back as per newspaper report. Delhi’s AQI (Air quality Index) improved since lock down from severe 200 to on a good day (anything more than 25 is considered unsafe as per WHO). Nowadays typical AQI is around 30.The general air pollution drop was around 71%.

We all know that It was because of all vehicular movement stopped, industries and construction were shut down all across the country.

All this drop in air pollution has been noticed in all countries. NASA (US) and European Space Agency satellite pictures clearly show significant drop in NO2 levels over India, China, Italy, France and other European countries.

                    ii.        Clearer water-

Water in river has become clearer. People might have seen the visuals of cleaner river Ganga at Kanpur and Varanasi. Even fishes are seen near Varanasi Ghats now.
There are reports that water of Delhi’s river Yamuna has also started to appear cleaner.

                   iii.        Clear Blue Sky-

Not only Delhi experiencing cleanest skies in years, residents of Jalandhar in Punjab woke up to an incredible sight of distant The Dhauladhar mountain range in H.P. These peaks are 120 miles away and had not been sighted on Punjab horizon since last 30 years.

                   iv.        Noise Levels-

CNN reported 30-50% reduction in noise levels. Now you can hear the voice of neighbourhood birds from balcony of your house.

                    v.        Positive effects on climate change

Environmentalists are saying that there are positive impacts on climate change also.

                   vi.        Clearer surroundings

There is vast cleanliness in our surroundings during this period. It is difficult to believe the pictures uploaded by people on social media.

2.    On Individuals

Every one is saying that Corona virus is not good but it is teaching several good things in life. The most important ones are that

                      i.        We all are getting plenty of time for self and for family.
ii.        Our life has become so simple whether rich or poor. Our needs have reduced and still we are happy. Other wise we are always busy with work and to earn more and more to meet our needs. But now we have realized that we can live happily without running after materialistic things in life.
iii.        Situations are not always as per our choice. So we have to be mentally strong so that we face the situation easily.
iv.        Every one is saying that it is normal to get scared due to corona virus. But on the contrary we cannot afford to be under tension and anxiety at this time as we will get influenced by the negative vibration all around us. We can save ourselves from corona virus but can be overwhelmed by negative vibrations if are not mentally strong.

4.    Lessons learnt

a.    We can work from Home. I suppose our govt. and private organizations will take a lesson out of it to avoid crowding at places.
b.    We can enjoy local vegetables, fruits and other grocery items instead going for costly imported food items.
c.    We can save lot of money which we waste by eating out and indulging in unnecessary purchases.
d.    If we want we can reduce pollution of all types.
e.    We can keep our surroundings clean if we want.
f.     We can consult doctors through tele medicine/online from home for minor ailments to avoid rush in hospitals.

A few lessons our government should also take.

1.    Our public healthcare system needs to be totally revamped and overhauled to handle such situations in our country in future.
2.    The essential supply of daily needs also needs to be overhauled to enable people to get daily needs in their neighborhood.
3.    Online supply system should be further strengthened and encouraged so that one can get even daily needs while sitting at home.
4.    On line payments and transfers should be made obligatory for all employers even in private sector. Cash flow should be reduced to bare minimum for all.

Indian Heritage and Culture part 1

Prof Gajendra Kumar was interviewed by RJ Ramesh on Indian heritage & culture in   Radio  Madhuban 90.4. Prof Gajendra said that he had great interest in history subject right from his childhood. It wasn't easy for him to go ahead with his interest as his family members wanted him to go for science. Because science helps in competitive exams. He said that today people want to capture whole world in their palm or concept of global village exists. Today science is at its peak level on one side and there is degradation of values on the other side. Science has its own limitations and today we can see the imbalance of nature. This resulted in the breaking of joint family. Thus, the concept of nuclear family came into existence. All elements has its place in this universe whether amoeba to human beings. Each organism has right to live. Our Indian culture teaches us about qualities like non-violence, brotherhood, good wishes for others, etc. Thus, at this moment, we need to blend Indian heritage & culture with science.

Lock down & Health

Lock down & Health Effects

1. In view of corona virus pandemic everyone is totally confined to our homes since lock down was imposed in our country w e f 25th March 2020. The same lock down condition is prevailing in 210 countries of world also due to corona virus.
At the time of writing this blog more than 12456 people have been infected and more than 423 persons have died due to corona virus in our country. The situation across the world is grimmer where more than 20, 94,943 people were infected and 13,569 people died due to this virus. The worst affected countries were US, UK, Italy,
Spain and France etc.
After only 2-3 weeks of lock down, reports had started pouring in electronic media about adverse impact of lock down on health of individuals. Everyone was very scared about corona virus infection and this was leading to tension, stress, anxiety and depression which was reflecting upon physical and mental health of individuals.
We had to realize that under the given circumstances no one had any choice except to stay inside our home for own safety and for safety of our family. However during this period we must take some precautions so as to keep us physically and mentally fit.

     2. A no. of symptoms are being noticed which reflect upon the adverse effects on health of individuals.
i.Continuously worrying about self and family about corona virus infection.
         ii. Disturbance of night sleep.
iii. Change in routine of meals.
iv. Unable to concentrate and feeling uneasiness.
                                 v.  Effects more severe in elderly people particularly having chronic illness
like diabetes, high BP and heart diseases etc.
vi. Some people feeling depressed due to lock down conditions.
vii.Increased use of alcohol, tobacco etc due to stress by some.

3. According to Indian Psychiatric Association there is a 20% increase in mental illness cases in our country since 2-3 weeks of lock down.
Cases are further increasing as the no. of corona virus cases are increasing day by day. Govt. of India has recently established a
Toll-free Helpline no. 080-46110009 where any one can seek guidance
for his/her mental problems during lock down.
This helpline is established by National Institute of Mental Health
and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Bangalore.
The consultation is being provided by doctors and trained staff of this institute.
There in another good news that govt to is going to start telemedicine facilities for mobile/online consultation to such patients through
NIMHANS and AIIMS. It will also help people at this hour of need.

4.Guidelines have been issued by WHO and our
Min of Health and Family Welfare in order to handle the situation
during corona virus pandemic.
        i.    Except for exempted category of duty personnel each and every
individual must remain at home during lock down period.
Every individual must maintain social distancing as
advised by medical authorities.
ii. We should follow healthy lifestyle where our meals, sleep and exercise etc
should be regulated.
iii. Remain in regular contact with our near and dear ones
through telephone or online.
iv.  It is the right time to pursue our hobbies which one could not pursue
due to busy schedule of life.
    v.   If one gets overwhelmed by scenes of death and causalities,
restrict our exposure to such news to the barest minimum.
vi. Do not indulge in excessive use of alcohol,
tobacco and other forms of drugs
just to cope up the lock down situation.
vii. If unable to cope up the situation then consult health professional.

5. Sleep is always a causality when a person is under
tension/stress as prevailing during lock down.
For proper night sleep we must follow
the advice of sleep scientists as below.
           i.  Stop use of mobile, tablet and computers etc at least 1-2 hrs before
going to sleep as it affects the melatonin
levels which is closely linked to our sleep.
ii. Follow a fixed sleep routine. Sleep early
around 10-10.30 PM and get up early
around 5 AM in the morn. This routine should be
a regularly instead during lock down.
iii.The food has a direct bearing on our sleep so always eat
very light dinner at least 2-3 hrs before sleep.
iv.   Follow a regular routine of exercise,
yoga and any other breathing exercises. This will improve our sleep.
v.There is a misconception among some people
that alcohol helps in getting sound sleep.
The fact is otherwise. Alcohol consumption disturbs
the Tryptophan levels in our body
thus disturbing the night sleep. One does not feel refreshed
after a full night sleep.
vi . Restrict coffee consumption after 5-6 PM in the evening.
Coffee contains certain
chemicals which create alertness in brain. It disturbs night sleep.
vii.   Last but not the least, do meditation for 5-10 min
every morn and 5-10 min every even. Rajyog is the best form
of meditation which is taught by Brahmakumaris.
One can learn it by watching in YouTube.
Later one can learn it at our nearest
Bramkumaris centre free of cost.
The medical science has now proved that meditation
not only improves our sleep
but also your overall physical and mental health.

So by following simple techniques suggested by
sleep scientists one can overcome the problem of disturb sleep.

In the end, as we all know we are going to face new
challenges in post corona virus pandemic
life so we have to keep ourselves more physically
and mentally fit to face the new challenges in life.
